Finally, some movement.

Well, I'm not trying to get my hopes up...but....

Anyone else noticed a few airlines are starting to hire again? Thoughts?

Also - apparently the FAA had a selection board late last week and pushed a lot of CTI applications through. I know of 5 people who were referred to their states, including myself. I noticed on Riddle's EagleHire (experience.com) that a lot of jobs have been popping up in aviation with a few being CFI jobs. Aiston, your old flight school was looking for someone. I applied to the job listed with Piper - I was surprised they were hiring with as bad as they were making their financial situation sound. They were shutting the plant down a day or two a week to cut costs...I guess things are picking back up? No idea but...

Finally, some movement in aviation.

Dont bother applying where i used to work. You will spend thousands of dollars moving and getting an apartment to make $300 dollars a month. You've been warned.

Yeah, I saw "Flight Instructor - Pegasus Air in Statesboro, GA" and chuckled, "wasn't that the place Aiston used to work and was so pissed off because he never had any work?!"...Just thought you'd enjoy that tidbit that they are again hiring.

So since Sully retired from Airways and this controller is probably going to get fired, there's some movement right there!

Some regionals are recalling and a few are hiring, the majors are continuing to lay off. Not exactly the best kind of movement IMO.

I'll hire you to load bags for my flights and stuff you into a wing locker so you can unload them after I land.

That's pretty sweet. Hey Brad, question - what's the FAA process like after you get referred to your states? Seems to me like it's an interview offer, but what was the timeline like and do you have any pointers on "what to expect"? I'm mainly curious if it's going to be another 6 months until I hear from any facilities. Not that I'm getting sick of my job and pay, or anything. lol

Brad had to throat quite a bit of protein to get where he is...I mean christ, you see what he's driving now? Pifer, looks like you're head & shoulders above him though, I have no doubt that you'll succeed following in Mr. Mason's footsteps.

You've been there how long?

No free lunch in this line of work, IMHO.

When it comes to your comments Ryan, I will refrain and keep my comments to myself.

But I will say these kinds of comments make me want to....see signature.

Ryan is the annoying NJ guidette in this situation. I'd like to punch him in the face and start a situation. I am the situation.

After you filled out the application on jobs.faa.gov you're name gets sent to the hiring boards along with your state selections. If you get hired into a facility you'll get a letter saying you've been hired I think you can also check the status online and it'll tell you the same thing. If you get hired into a Center it'll tell you just the state name or if you've been hired into a terminal position it should tell you the facility name. After that you'll do an interview at the place you were hired or a nearby facility, if you get hired from there with a offer letter (the initial offer is a Temp Offer Letter TOL you get in the mail) you'll do a physical with an AME (flight phys doesn't count), psych exam, and fill out some more paperwork, background check and wait until they assign you an academy date. It takes about 6-8 weeks after all this other stuff is done to get assigned a date, so from the time you get your TOL to the time you sit down at the academy I'd guess it take an average of between 6 months to a year.

You and any other future ATC people can get a lot of good info from this site.
